What does your self-Care look like this time of year?

Feeling Kinda Blue SupportUncategorized2 Comments

It really just dawned on me how many of us may need to adjust our self-care for the seasons. My main form of self-care is being out in nature. Running hiking, camping, rafting, open air art festivals; basically, all my fav self-care activities and hobbies are outdoors, and I HATE the cold. I will probably layer up and still get out but even with that the days are shorter so maybe a few new (and old) ideas would still be good to try.  I am all ears as to any suggestions you all might have!

Book clubs sound GREAT in theory but I have never tried them. Have any of you? I thought about looking at Meetup | Find Local Groups, Events, and Activities Near You  to see if they have any groups like that. I do read sporadically so I am not sure if that is the best fit for me, but I am willing to look more into it. I know I can use all help I can get this time of year.  With book club’s you read and you meet new people, so its kind of a win, win, it you find the right group.

I have also considered a P/T holiday type job. I know it’s not traditional self-care, but it would keep me busy, I could meet new people, and it could give me extra $$ for the holidays.  Volunteering is another option I have been considering for a while. This is a good site if anyone is interested in volunteering as well VolunteerMatch – Where Volunteering Begins

I’m not great and it’s all abstract but I think I need start painting again. That was really therapeutic when I used to do it. I would turn on some music, or my fav old movie I have seen 100 times or play a podcast and just create. It was nothing fancy, but it was my thing and I miss it.

What do you all do or think you might try this season?

Take care beautiful people,

Nicole 😉

  1. Self care for me means just enjoying my independence. There’s something to be said for the ability to do (or not do) what you want, when you want.

I won’t hesitate to go on a road trip, see a sporting event, attend a concert, go to a karaoke bar, the casino…all by myself. And if I don’t feel like doing these things, I’ll be a homebody and relax on the couch watching whatever I happen to surf to. Independence…gotta love it. Gotta take advantage of it.

I’m also a sucker for mail order items. The other day I saw an ad on TV for an incense burner where the smoke goes down a series of tiny cliffs instead of going up. I got on their website, saw that it was cheap, and decided to get one. It’s on the way. Mail order for me is a way of creating near-future happiness. I guess I just like the feeling of anticipation. 😉

  2. @mattyblast, I love this. I too find great enjoyment and opportunity in my independence as well. Personally, thinking like this kind of gives me my “powers” back when I am having a rough go of it and not able to cope otherwise. Reminding myself that I hold the choices and get to pick any of them I want is relieving to me! Do you feel the similar in that sense?

What is your favorite road trip to take or favorite activity to partake in when you start itching to do something? Weekend trips are my favorite because I feel its like a refresher and can’t get boring, since its only a couple of days!
