I texted the therapist that my old therapist referred me to. It had been 2 1/2 days since I got a text from her and I didn’t know if she got my last text or not.
She messaged back that she had been working nonstop and that when she got a break she would send some appointment times for me to review. I’m not sure this seems like a very good start.
I feel awful for not realizing that she wasn’t responding because of how busy she was and for bothering her. I really don’t talk to a lot of people let alone text them so I guess I should have waited longer. I was starting to work on social skills with my therapist that just left, and clearly, I still need to.
Part of me wants to call the therapist that I saw for 20 years and just go back to seeing him. That would be the easier thing to do, but probably not the healthiest thing to do. I guess I just need to work through feeling embarrassed and uncomfortable right now.
I think I’ll go for a walk.

Lauren,
Try not to beat yourself up over that, you had no way of knowing that is the reason she was not responding! Although, I do think that taking a walk is ALWAYS a helpful and healthy coping mechanism! I want to share a helpful website with you:
www/psychologytoday.com is a WONDERFUL way to search for therapists in your area! It is zip code based, so it filters who is available closest to your zip code! You can specify certain issues you would like them to be well versed/specialized in to ensure you are truly getting the help you need and deserve. Also, you can enter your insurance if applicable under the “insurance” tab to see who is covered for you. They provide a bio for you to read so you can choose one based on who you think would fit your needs best. I encourage you to check it out and to reach out through the website for different therapy options! It is super user friendly too. I hope this lifts a bit of weight off of your shoulders in searching for a therapist! You deserve a good fit. Thanks for the update!
