I feel like I just don’t know the rules

It happened again.  Only this time it was a baseball game.  I took a (first) date to a baseball game, things seemed to be going fine, then in the middle of the 6th inning she got up to leave (presumably to get a beverage or go to the rest room) and never came back.

Is this some new thing that people do now?  If so, when did it become acceptable to simply walk out on the person you’re with if you’re not that into them?

The way I’m feeling right now could only be described as “crushed”.  There must be a set of rules out there that I’m not following, otherwise I wouldn’t have women sneak out on me during our first date.  Well, forget about it.  There’s no way for me to learn these rules because when it comes to the fairer sex, I have learning disability.  Some complain that they have to buy their own drinks, yet others won’t accept your offer for drinks because they think you’re expecting “something” in return.  So what’s a guy to do?

I can’t figure out the rules.  I probably don’t have what it takes to follow them anyway.  I’m too old, not successful enough, I haven’t been taking care of my body lately, and my face isn’t much to look at, either.  I just want to give up.  The thought of living the rest of my life with no affection has me absolutely horrified.

  1. @mattyblast Matty, I can understand the feelings of rejection and hurt after having these awful experiences. Have you had the chance to work through some of these aspects with a counselor? If not, and you are wanting resources for one, we can always help you there.

The “guidelines” for dating have indeed become incredibly tricky, and everyone’s expectations are all across the board, which can be very hard to deal with while also trying to take care of yourself in the process. Is there anything you are needing extra support with right now? Were you able to practice some self-care after having a hard time with this?

Remember, you can always call us if you are wanting to process some of this with someone. I know you have the number already, but here it is just in case you do not want to go searching and you decide that talking with us might benefit you! 866.728.7983 :).
