Some things can’t be fixed

It’s been going very well with therapist lately but one thing I’ve noticed is she makes suggestions about everything. While I appreciate it, not everything can be fixed. Nothing can fix or sell this horrible trailer my parents left me in alone. Nothing can fix the ocean and lack of citizenship between me and my partner other than money and the economy being fixed over there. And nothing can fix how much of a burden I am to my grandparents or that I’m mentally disabled and can’t work or drive.

These are just realities. I cannot change reality.

  1. Dear Justaspekt,

I think you had hit on something important. That is, sometimes we just are looking for validation and not for someone to come by and fix things. Also, as you said, some things cannot be fixed in the sense that they can be made right or perfect. There are certainly ways to progress and learn how to react/ handle challenges but I hear what you are saying about your therapist regularly giving suggestions. If you feel comfortable, I would suggest mentioning to your therapist that at times you need a listening ear but not suggestions right away. That may be something they are still working on. You deserve to have a space where you can be heard and not feel overwhelmed by suggestions if that is what you are needing.
