What is the difference between being temporarily "down" and experiencing depression?

According to the American Psychiatric Association (2015) Depression also referred to as major depressive disorder is a common illness that has many negative effects on one’s actions, thoughts, and emotions. Depression can cause loss of interest, sadness, and can decrease a person’s ability to function in their daily life.

The following questions can help you determine your level of depression. This quiz can also be used to help a friend or family member. If you notice yourself answering that you frequently experience these feelings, it may be time to talk with a professional who can work with you to seek help. This quiz is not meant to be a diagnosis, or the elimination of a diagnosis.
